eLearning Supporting Essential Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
This example shows how eLearning supports workforce development and training requirements within the NHS in relation to the Scottish Government Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Programme.
NES is a national health board responsible for supporting NHS services in Scotland by developing and delivering education and training for those who work in NHS Scotland. NES wanted to create a learning resource, ‘Essential Perinatal and Infant Mental Health’, to build on the publication of their Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Curricular Framework.
The learning resource needed to highlight the unique aspects of caring for women with mental health problems during the perinatal period, as well as the importance of promoting attachment between mother and infant, within the context of their family and support network.
NES were looking to stimulate the interest of new staff working in specialist areas to help them develop a better understanding of the risks to women and their infant in the perinatal period. NES also wanted to encourage clinicians, through learning activities, to reflect on personal attitudes, beliefs and work practices as well as how they interact with women and their infants and families.
The eLearning produced by eCom, helps NES to:
- Easily deliver training in an engaging, cost-effective way
- Ensure learners develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to deliver appropriate care
- Offer learners the flexibility to fit learning around existing work commitments
- Enable learners to get the most from the learning experience by including options for working through the material with a supervisor or their peers
- Support competence in this key area for the NHS
It was a pleasure to work with eCom on this resource. The interactive process that eCom has developed for elearning resources worked really well in lockdown. We did not miss a beat and the resource was launched on time. The resource looks great and works well, which is why so many users are rating it so highly.
