A Day in the Life of a Graduate Developer

As an international student, it is challenging to find a job in the UK, not only because of the language barrier, but more importantly a working visa is required which has stringent rules.

I studied Computing at the University of Dundee and developed a keen interest in building websites through modules on my course such as database management, secure internet programming and agile engineering. My interest was further cemented by my colleague’s passion for programming. After I graduated in the Autumn, the company has applied to sponsor my working visa.

My responsibilities at eCom are centred around the redevelopment of eNetBadges, eCom’s digital micro-credentialing tool. I initially focused on implementing front-end requirements and more recently I have been working on back-end development.

"Working at eCom Scotland provides me with some great opportunities to learn up-to-date techniques."

I have also been exposed to new ideas and tools almost on a daily basis, from coding style to programming patterns, from writing single lines of code, to debugging through the whole project and from understanding customers’ needs to delivering against their requirements.

I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and to contributing to the company’s growth.
