The Customer Service Professional Qualifications delivered yet another significant milestone when Laura Graham, Customer Service Officer from North Lanarkshire Council, became the 2000th Employee from the Scottish Public Sector to register as a candidate.
The Customer Service Qualifications were soft launched in late 2008 with a small group of 10 Award Level candidates from Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire Councils. Following an independent evaluation of this cohort the Award level was then formally launched to all Scottish local authorities in March 2009.
The qualifications have been embraced since then by colleagues from the wider Scottish public sector and there are now 40 organisations who deliver the qualifications to their employees, including 29 of the 32 Scottish Councils.
Two further levels of the qualification were also introduced so that the qualification now comprises a suite of three – Award, Certificate and Professional Development Award – all of which are accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Michael Moran, Senior Organisational Development Adviser, Renfrewshire Council, who manages the qualifications Central Administration Point added. “To start just over 6 years ago with only 10 candidates and to now have 2000 is better than we could have ever expected. The success of the qualifications, and indeed reaching this milestone, would not have been achieved however without the collaborative efforts of so many, within all of the organisations who now deliver the qualifications. I would like to thank them all. In particular I would like to thank Robert for his dedicated and ongoing support to deliver the qualifications within North Lanarkshire Council.”

The Customer Service Professional suite of qualifications is Scottish local government’s only online professional qualification certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
The qualifications’ have been developed under Renfrewshire Council and the Improvement Service’s lead with ongoing financial and leadership support provided by the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA)
