I started life off as a designer working part time at a magazine company. This experience gave me first glimpse into the world of web technologies and client relations, first sparking my passion for front end design. After my degree was finished I decided that I’d learnt the ropes of design work and moved on to the coding side, where I spent a few years growing these skills.
It didn’t take me long to find a company which had the ideals and infrastructure to support my passion. Since joining, I have moved to an official role of Senior Front End Developer, which includes a variety of design and interactive work, alongside some development work. To put it simply, our department is the conduit between the development team and the design team, which both include some of the most talented people I’ve had the privilege to work with.
I am responsible for ensuring our products and services conform to their respective design and the mark-up is produced to a high standard, to provide the best possible result. In order to achieve this high standard, we employ semantic mark-up and confirm to responsive layouts to ensure all of the websites we produce are available to use on a wide variety of devices.
This is key to ensuring successful websites/web applications and to ensure that all sites are accessible, regardless of where or what the user is trying to view the website on. The results and the innovations involved with my day to day work keeps everything fresh and rewarding.
As web development is a constantly evolving industry, we have a high focus on research and development here at eCom Scotland. This ensures that we are keeping up to date with the latest design trends, up to date libraries and are employing the latest and greatest when it comes to new technology. This research and development has also helped me as I get to learn new and exciting things on a regular basis.
